 Tao Jin

Born in Shanghai, China, and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Tao Jin, a G12 student at University Hill Secondary, has always pictured himself as an accomplished engineer in future. From an early age, Tao has had a strong penchant for hands-on activities, taking pride in assembling much of the furniture at home.  As his understanding of the world has evolved, the specific field Tao would like to devote to has changed from an aircraft designer to a civil engineer, and later to a computer or cybersecurity engineer. However, the dream of a future career has always been centered around the identity of an engineer.

After school, Tao has committed much of his time in Air Cadets in last 5 years pursuing his passion for aviation. Music is another hobby he loves to spend time on, frequently turning to his piano or his trumpet to express his emotions. Now, writing a few lines of code each week has become part of his new routine.  Besides his interests, Tao has been highly engaged in community service.  Serving as a volunteer math tutor for years, he has contributed greatly to building a thriving community, Math Connect, where everyone supports each other, fostering mutual growth.

Tao considers himself environmentally conscious and deeply concerned about the deteriorating state of our planet. This concern led him to join GreenFutures Foundation, where he can collaborate with like-minded peers to raise awareness of environmental issues and advocate for sustainable projects.

At Local Conference Of Youth (LCOY), Canada 2024, Tao played duel roles.  As a key member of the conference organizing team, he took in charge of the technical solutions for this hybrid meeting involving participants around the world.  Besides, he was one of the youth speakers who shared his desktop research findings of the environmental impacts of human’s daily activities and called for a low carbon lifestyle.
